Kids Dia de los Muertos Prints

A couple of weeks ago I did a Dia de los Muertos project with a third grade class. We did calavera relief prints using styrofoam plates. They all got to do 2 prints, one red and one black. They turned out super cool! And everyone one of them was very unique, which is awesome  because I really try to stress that it is a good thing if their art is different from their neighbors. I love doing printing projects with kids because they get to see how multiple reproductions are made. I will post a "How To" on this project when I have an extra minute.

monktopus stool

Just finished this stool for my good friend and awesome artist, Elijah Cole.
It started out as a raw wood stool. First I stained it, then airbrushed the fades and dark areas. Next I cleared it 2 or 3 times with varathane. For whatever weird reason I have been hooked on drawing this "monktopus" creature, so that is what I painted... using my usual combo of acrylic and enamel. Then another thousand coats of clear. Now it's all ready to be kicked around the tattoo shop. Hope ya enjoy it Eli!

Class Alert, Class Alert!

I will be teaching a class for 13 - 18 year olds at Nevada Museum of Art Mondays, November 10th to December 8th, 4 - 6pm. This class will focus on stylizing original characters and art work in general. We will also look at the work of other artists and how their style makes them unique. Most of all, we are gonna have fun!
TEEN ART STUDIO: GRAPHIC CHARACTERS
Teens will create stylish graphic characters using drawing and painting media. Students will expand their creativity using layering and stylization techniques, painting on different surfaces, and combining art media to create cool effects.
